SAN ANTONIO -- Toyota officials said Wednesday that the pending reduction in workforce of 200 temporary employees at the San Antonio plant is by no means a signal that the plant is in danger of shutting down.
"It's important for people to know that Toyota is here to stay," said Mike de la Garza of Toyota External Affairs. "(It's) just a question of how we respond to national conditions of which we have no control. And so, we're doing the prudent measures to make sure we're here for years to come."
The layoffs involve 200 employees with Aerotek, a company that provides staffing nationwide. No members of Toyota's full-time force will be affected.
The company is also going to shut down the production line on Fridays to prevent overproduction of the Tundra.
The measures were taken due to high gasoline prices and a lesser demand for the Tundra.
