Big Give SA holds pep rally to increase awareness

Rally attracts hundreds to City Hall; charitable event scheduled for May 3

SAN ANTONIO – Hundreds of people stood on the steps of City Hall Tuesday for a pep rally to increase public awareness for the annual Big Give SA campaign.

The campaign, scheduled for May 3, is a day for residents to donate to their favorite nonprofit organizations. Big Give SA is part of a national day of giving called "Give Local America."

San Antonio is among more than 50 communities taking part in the campaign, which also provides an opportunity for residents to learn how nonprofits address social challenges, brings nonprofits and donors together, connects residents to the causes they care about and embraces the online giving movement.

"It's really neat to see the entire community come out and really support all of the local rescue groups and nonprofits," Robyn Charlie of Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas said. "It's a big deal for San Antonio."

Organizers hope to raise $6 million and said that if everyone in South Texas made a donation of $10, meeting the goal would be no problem.

As part of the week leading up to the Big Give, KSAT 12 featured the Food Policy Council of San Antonio, one of the non-profits asking for your help.

Big Give SA is a KSAT Community event.
