The global organization provides a "home away from home" for families who need to stay close to their sick children, as they receive medical treatment and undergo surgeries.

Saturday is the 42nd anniversary of the charity, and it's why McDonald's is hosting its Global RMHC Day of Change.

"Last year alone, the greater San Antonio Co-op, as well as our customers and crew members were able to give $178,000 in loose change to support the Ronald Houses and patients like Tonali," San Antonio McDonald's franchisee owner Michele Hoskins said.

One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the charity. The majority stays local, with the three Ronald McDonald Houses in San Antonio.

Donation boxes are located by the cash registers and drive-thrus of all restaurants.
