SAN ANTONIO – Millions of consumers have been affected by recent price hikes in prescription drugs.
The rising prices aren't limited to big brand names or specialty drugs. Even longtime generics continue to jump in price.
In most cases, pharmaceutical companies can raise the price of drugs without restrictions.
So what can a consumer do to offset the costs?
"Let your doctor know you're concerned about costs. He or she may be able to help you find a less expensive alternative or appeal to your insurance company to cover the costs," Lisa Gill, of Consumer Reports, said.
Shopping around is a good idea, Gill said. Prices can vary widely even within the same Zip code.
