Mouton Anchors News Bald

SAN ANTONIO - KSAT 12 News anchorwoman Leslie Mouton delivered the top stories Friday night -- bald.
Mouton, a victim of breast cancer, did not wear the wig that she's been using since she shaved her head two months ago.
Mouton ditched the hair piece to show her viewers that her battle with breast cancer is real.
When co-anchor Steve Spriester told Mouton that she was "brave", Mouton replied "Not so brave ... I think it's necessary."
Mouton said that Friday was the only time she plans to anchor the news without her hair piece.
Mouton said that her decision was not a ratings ploy. February is a ratings period for television news stations nationwide.
"If I don't do it now, I won't do it ever," Mouton said before the newscast. She said that her hair should begin growing now that her chemotherapy sessions are over.
After the newscast, Mouton hosted a live chat on the Internet, where she received dozens of compliments on her decision to anchor bald and got numerous well-wishes on her battle with cancer.
Mouton discovered a lump during a breast self-exam. She visited a doctor who confirmed that she had cancer.
Mouton had surgery to remove the growth and has undergone four treatments of chemotherapy. She has been feeling fine.
The anchorwoman is using her experience to help other breast cancer victims. She keeps viewers updated on her fight against cancer by taking them into hospital rooms and by keeping a diary on KSAT 12's web site.
She decided to share her story in hopes of encouraging all women to do their own breast self-exams.
