Memorial Service Planned For Sammy Ochoa, Mother
Shrine Set Up For Sammy Ochoa, Rebecca Gonzales At Market Square
SAN ANTONIO - From their silly smiles to their theatrics, Sammy Ochoa and her mother Rebecca couldn't be more missed.
"I miss them more than you can imagine. There are terms like 'My heart is broken,' and 'There's a hole in my heart.' Truly it feels like there's a physical hole in my heart," Suzy Bianchi-Peters said.
But after a long, ugly custody battle, Bianchi-Peters will finally have the memorial her beloved daughter and granddaughter deserve.
It will be a day she said she wants to be a celebration of their lives.
"We're thinking of (them) and celebrating all of the wonderful things they did, all of the wonderful memories," Bianchi-Peters said.
The official memorial is Sunday but in honor of Dia de los Muertos, a shrine has been set up at market square for Sammy and Rebecca.
Bianchi-Peters said Dia de los Muertos was always special to her and her family but now even more so.
The shrine is made up of Rebecca and Sammy's favorite things, including a can of tuna, Rebecca's favorite food, and a yellow dress that Sammy loved to wear.
Bianchi-Peters said with no formal murder charges in her daughter and granddaughter's cases, she knows her journey has not come to an end, but she's thankful that come Sunday, she can finally give them a proper and meaningful memorial service.
The shrine at Market Square will remain up through the week. The memorial service will be held Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Crockett Park at Main and Cypress. It is open to the public.
