Bexar sheriff accused of gross mismanagement, misconduct
Bexar County Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz facing accusations in midst of re-election bid
SAN ANTONIO - Susan Pamerleau, a Republican candidate for Bexar county sheriff, held a press conference Tuesday morning where she accused current Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz, of "gross mismanagement and misconduct."
Armed with headlines pulled from various news outlets over the last few months, Pemerleau recounted the allegations against some of Amadeo's staff, accused of possession of drugs to smuggling drugs into the Bexar County jail to inadvertently releasing inmates from the jail.
"What this represents is the lack of supervision, the lack of training, the lack of doing the right thing," Pamerleau, a retired Air Force general, said. "And in the end; it all comes back to leadership, making sure you focus on the right things. Our sheriff isn't doing that."
Calls from KSAT-TV to Sheriff Ortiz for his response to these accusations were not returned.
