Police arrest man who tried to run down officer

Suspect faces list of charges, including assault on an officer

SAN ANTONIO - A 49-year-old man faces a list of charges, including assault on an officer and evading arrest, after an incident on the East Side in which he allegedly tried to run down an officer with his car.

San Antonio police said the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop around 1 a.m. Wednesday after seeing the suspect buying drugs in the area of Bellinger and Dorie streets.

Police said the suspect sped off instead, driving between two patrol cars and trying to run down an officer.

He finally stopped after jumping a curb, but then began fighting with officers who were trying to arrest him, police said.

No officers were injured, but during the struggle, the suspect suffered a seizure. He was taken to a hospital for observation.

Police did not immediately release the name of the suspect.
