Testimony to begin in suspected drunken driver's trial

18-month-old child seriously hurt; Woman driver flees scene

SAN ANTONIO - A woman facing charges of intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid will have her punishment decided by a jury.

A panel was chosen on Monday in 290th District Court in the case of Julie Bronson, 45, who investigators said ran down a woman and her small children in their front yard in April 2009.

Eighteen-month-old Ava Lopez was seriously injured. Her mother, Traci Lopez, and her 3-year-old sister were also hurt.

After her car jumped a curb in front of the Lopez home and struck the three, Bronson allegedly continued on.

Her tires had blown out and she was driving on the rims, according to Lopez.

Bronson is facing a punishment range of two to 10 years in prison.
