New hope for unwanted ACS dogs
Twice-weekly adoption events set at SE side Petco
SAN ANTONIO - Among the nine dogs inside the mobile adoption van set up by Animal Care Services outside the Petco at 3143 S.E. Military Dr. were some that were brought from the nearby ACS shelter at Brooks City-Base.
Lisa Norwood, ACS spokeswoman, said the van will be there every Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 6 p.m. in hopes of increasing the dogs’ visibility and their chances for adoption.
Norwood said the dogs are available for a reduced rate of $50, and $15 for ACS cats that can be found daily inside the Petco
She said the Brooks City-Base shelter is not open to the public and many families may not be willing to drive out to the primary ACS facility on Highway 151.
Norwood said if all goes well, ACS will consider making the Petco event more than twice weekly.
She said the dogs will be vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered, and they will get one free grooming and a bag of premium dog food.
Norwood said their owners also will be given useful information on how to keep their dogs healthy and happy.
