Xenex Healthcare Services to relocate to San Antonio
Company markets portable hospital disinfection systems
SAN ANTONIO - In a move that San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro says will strengthen the city's biosciences portfolio, Xenex Healthcare Services has announced it is moving the firm's corporate headquarters to San Antonio.
"The investment of Xenex is right in line with what we want to see in the biosciences," Castro said at a news conference Friday. "With investments like this in San Antonio, we are becoming a city that will be one of the most successful cities in the United States."
Xenex manufactures portable room disinfection systems that uses a robotic type device which emits ultraviolet light that's capable of completely disinfecting a hospital room in just five minutes at a cost of about $3, said Xenex CEO Morris Miller.
"Xenex's mission is to save lives by reducing infections in hospitals and other health care settings," Miller said.
Citing the dangers of infections, Dr. Fernando Guerra, former director of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health Department, said infections are the fourth-leading cause of deaths in the United States and are "associated with some very significant costs within the overall health system."
