Bee sting survivor grateful to be alive

Man stung hundreds of times while mowing sister’s lawn

SAN ANTONIO - Salvador Flores is sore and swollen, but also counting his blessings after surviving an attack by a swarm of bees.

Flores said he was mowing his sister’s lawn Tuesday afternoon, when suddenly he was covered in bees.

“All of a sudden, they just came from behind.  They just covered the back of my neck, the side, the front.  They stung me all over,” said Flores.

Flores said he ran into the street, unsuccessfully trying to swat the bees away.

A couple drivers stopped and called 911, and when the first officer arrived, he helped Flores into the back of his cruiser.

Firefighters pulled him out and hosed him down from head to toe.

Paramedics then rushed him to Northeast Methodist Hospital, where he received emergency treatment.

“I thank everybody that got involved yesterday from the bottom of my heart,” said Flores. “They say we only have one life, and it’s short. Well, my life extended.”

Flores said he expects to be released from the hospital once the swelling goes down a little more.
