Freezer gel packs, more products recalled

High chair, coffeemaker pose danger to consumers

From popular gel packs consumer use to keep their lunches cold to convertible high chairs,  several products are recalled for safety reasons, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission www.cpsc.gov.

Nearly 880,000 freezer gel  packs by California Innovations (www.californiainnovations.com) are recalled due to an ingestion hazard.  The recalled products are Arctic Zone ice packs and Cryofeeze ice/hot packs.

If the plastic pouches are damanged, they can leak gel that could contain diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, which can make people sick if  large amounts are ingested.

Six styles, sold between July 2007 and December 2008 are recalled.

Coffeemakers

Tens of thousands of Black & Decker Spacemaker 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemakers are recalled by Applica Consumer Products. www.acprecall.com

The coffee pot handle can break, causing burns and cuts to the user. There are 1276 reports of handles breaking, including 68 reported injuries.

The recall includes several models sold since July 2008.

Activity centers

Toys R Us is recalling 24,000 Imaginarium Activity Centers sold in 2009 and 2010 due to a choking hazard.

The small wooden knobs of the xylophone on model number 46284 can come off, posing a choking danger to small children.

High chairs

Evenflo is recalling 35,000 convertible high chairs. 

The activity tray can unexpectedly come off, allowing an unrestrained child to fall out.  Eight children have been hurt falling out of the chair.

Toys R Us and Walmart sold them since December.

Parents should contact Evenflo www.safety.evenflo.com for a replacement tray.

Dumbbells

Nautilus is recalling certain Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Dumbbells.

The weight selector dial can fail, causing the weights to fall when the dumbbell is lifted out of the cradle.

The recall involves units with a manufacturing date code between 1111 and 1136.

Consumers should contact Nautilus at www.bowflex.com for a repair kit.
