SAPD: Man goes 'wild' in back of patrol car
Suspect kicked out patrol car window, grabbed officer's taser weapon
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio police say a man kicked out the window of a patrol car, injured an officer and tried to steal an officer's stun gun weapon during an arrest late Wednesday night.
Officers responded to a family violence call in the 1600 block of Tampico around 11 p.m., and arrested a man accused of assaulting his girlfriend.
Police said the suspect became belligerent and went wild in the back of the patrol car. Investigators said the man kicked out a window, and the shattered glass cut an officer.
The officer was taken to Metropolitan Hospital downtown for cuts on his hand, arm and leg. The suspect tried to grab the officer's stun gun. Another officer was finally able to subdue the suspect.
Police said the man faces charges for assault on an officer, taking an officer's weapon, criminal mischief and family violence.
He also had an outstanding warrant for criminal trespassing. His name has not been released.
