Swimmer drowns in Medina Lake

Bandera sheriff: Alberto Vielma died on June 23


BANDERA COUNTY, Texas - Bandera County sheriff's officials said a 35-year-old San Antonio man died on Saturday, June 23, after drowning in Medina Lake.

Officilas said Alberto Vielma was swimming with friends around 11 a.m. in Bandera County Park when the group decided to swim across the lake.

At some point, Vielma called for help and went under the water, but friends and nearby kayakers were unable to find him.

A dive team with Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department recovered Vielma's body about an hour after he went under.

An autopsy has been ordered and toxicology reports are pending.
