2 jailed following courthouse 'prank'
Houston men nabbed climbing up courthouse fire escape
SAN ANTONIO - Two Houston men were arrested Sunday night after they we caught trying to scale an exterior fire escape at the Bexar County Courthouse, police said.
Jeffrey Segrist and Maverick Perez, both 24, were booked on criminal trespass charges.
Both men are from the Houston area, according to the Bexar County Sheriff.
“They simply said they had been out drinking and they wanted to get up on a high building,” said Bexar County Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz. “They just wanted to get up high so they could overlook the city.”
Not a good idea, said Ortiz.
“We take it very seriously because it is the courthouse,” Ortiz said.
The sheriff said that they are reviewing the case with an eye toward creating a more effective way to discourage trespassers.
This was the second time in less than a year that someone tried to climb the fire escape.
In November, three men were arrested after they scaled the fire escape and managed to get inside the courthouse.
Like the Houston men, they said it was a drunken prank.
