SAPD: Nude woman found dead in empty lot
Discovery of body leaves police, neighbors with questions
SAN ANTONIO - Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found nude on the 600 block of Carroll Avenue on Sunday.null
A neighbor at nearby apartments called police about a foul smell in the area.
“Everybody was saying it smelled like a dead dog,” said Gabby Ybarra, who lives in those apartments.
The report of the odor led police to the discovery of the woman’s nude body. She was found against a fence in an overgrown empty lot.
Investigators believe the body had been there for roughly two to three days, as it had already begun to decompose. The lot is full of tall grass, but neighbors say it had been mowed the week before.
Police say it appears the woman’s body did not suffer any trauma.
“I don’t think there is very much information to go on in terms of injuries or a cause of death, so we’re going to rely on the medical examiner’s office to make that determination,” said SAPD Sgt. Javier Salazar.
Police say there is no information yet on what the woman was doing in the area where she was found, but some neighbors we spoke to say it is not uncommon to see drug activity and prostitution there.
“My friend said that during the Fourth of July, they saw two cars going up and down this road, back and forth,” Ybarra said.
“At this point, no witnesses have come forward, but we're certainly urging anyone with any information, no matter how small it may seem to them, to give us a call,” said Salazar.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
