Driver flees hit-and-run, crashes into pole

Suspect fled scene of crash before slamming into pole

SAN ANTONIO - A man was hospitalized late Wednesday evening after Bexar County sheriff's deputies say he fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash and then wrecked again, this time with a utility pole.

Investigators said the driver was headed down Highway 90 around 10:15 p.m., and as he merged with Loop 1604, he rear-ended another car, causing a chain reaction crash.

Two cars ended up in the median, but deputies said the driver at fault kept going.

Deputies said he pulled over on Potranco to survey the damage to his car, but fled again when he saw one of the cars he stuck approaching.

In his rush to get away, the driver crashed into a traffic pole and got trapped inside the car for 25 minutes, deputies said.

Crews got him out of the vehicle and he was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.

Deputies said he faces several charges including intoxication assault and fleeing the scene.

Deputies did not say if the passengers of the other vehicles involved were injured, but children were inside one of those vehicles.
