Family escapes East Side house fire

No one injured in fire on Del Flor Way; Cause unknown

SAN ANTONIO - A family escaped a fire in their home even though they did not have a working smoke detector.

The fire broke out in the 100 block of Del Flor Way off Hackberry early Friday morning.

Fire officials say the blaze appeared to start in the back of the home near an air conditioner, but quickly spread.

Two people who live at the home said the smell of smoke woke them up and they rushed everyone outside.

Crews put out the fire and kept it from spreading much further, but the home sustained heavy damage.

Family members say they had four kittens, but as of 7 a.m. only two had been found.

The arson unit was called to investigate the cause but firefighters say it did not appear to be suspicious.
