Democrats face off in District 23

Incoming party chairman calls race “a win-win”

SAN ANTONIO - The incoming chairman of the Bexar County Democratic Party is calling the runoff race to represent the party in the race for Congressional District 23 a win-win situation for Democrats.

Manuel Medina said, “I am ecstatic with Ciro and with Pete ... We just want to get started on Wednesday headed toward November.”

Medina was talking about Tuesday’s runoff election pitting longtime State Rep. Pete Gallego and former U.S. Rep. Ciro Rodriguez, who lost the seat to Republican Rep. Francisco Conseco in 2010.

The winner of Tuesday’s runoff will face Conseco in November.

“We’re going to beat him on the issues, whether it is health care, the economy or support for veterans and students,” Medina said. “We’re going to beat them on the issues.”
