3 arrested in eight-liner bust

Refugio Rodriguez, Olga Rodriguez, Shamsuddin Momin charged with gambling

SAN ANTONIO - Three people were arrested after police say they were running an illegal slot machine operation out of a back yard shed.

Arrested and charged with gambling were Refugio Rodriguez, 67; his wife, Olga Rodriguez, 66; and Shamsuddin Momin, 45.

Police said it appears the couple in May rented out the shed to Momim, who then purchased about 12 eight-liner machines.

Momim hired other people to run the operation on a day-to-day basis, and the couple knew what was going on in their back yard, police said.

Patrons were paid out winnings in cash, which is illegal in Texas.

Police were watching the operation for about two months before making the arrests.
