Second UTSA football player charged with aggravated robbery

Toyin Dada was arrested on Thursday

SAN ANTONIO - After the arrest of 21-year-old Adefemi Adekeye on Wednesday, police have now arrested 21-year-old former UTSA football player Toyin Dada.

Dada (pictured) was arrested Thursday in connection with what police investigators called a drug deal that turned into an armed robbery and standoff on Tuesday.

Both men are charged with aggravated robbery in relation to the incident.

Both men were non-scholarship players on the defensive side of the ball.

Coach Larry Coker released this statement regarding the incident:

"I am aware of Adefemi Adekeye and Toyin Dada's arrests and have dismissed them from our program. Due to the ongoing investigation by law enforcement, we will not make any further comments on this situation."

Friday marked the unofficial beginning to the Roadrunners' season, with players reporting for Media Day.

However, coaches and players remained quiet on the issue, pending the investigation.

Practice for the UTSA squad, as they start their first season in the WAC Conference, gets underway on Sunday.

Students believed the incident had spoiled some of the excitement.

"Behavior like that shouldn’t even be happening because I know the season is about to start, you know, camp is about to start, so it’s uncalled for,” said UTSA student Emily Nava.

"If there were drugs involved and weapons, there’s no doubt (they should be kicked off the team), I don’t even think they should be in school anymore,” added Adam Pena.

UTSA’s first game is scheduled for August 30th against South Alabama.
