Driver arrested after hitting woman on scooter

Woman in hospital with multiple injuries

SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio woman is the hospital with a broken leg and damaged pelvis, after she was hit by an SUV on Thursday.

Sheila Vasquez, 28, was riding her scooter home after work and crossing Josephine Street when she said a red SUV came speeding toward her.

"I could hear everything when it hit me," said Vasquez. "I heard my bones. I was just spinning."

Vasquez said she yelled, but the driver of the SUV just took off.

According to some witnesses, he continued to drive recklessly, running over a stop sign and eventually, wrecking his own vehicle.

Although that driver, Aaron Rosillo, 21, was arrested, Vasquez said she can't believe that he not only put her life in danger, but also the lives of a one-year-old child, a teenager, and the driver's girlfriend, who were all in the SUV with him at the time.

"Keep your eyes open because that 7 seconds it takes to get in front of somebody, you want to be early or you want to hurry up and get home, that can save somebody's life if you just drive carefully," she said.

Vasquez was in the hospital Friday with a broken leg, pelvic damage and injuries to her hands.

She said she's just thankful to everyone who helped her out.

"I'm just so thankful and blessed that I had all those people come out of nowhere," she said. "They gave me their baby blanket. One man quickly got out his cell phone and said, "Who can I call for you?" and another lady just sat there and held my hand."

Vasquez had to undergo surgery on Friday and will remain hospitalized at least for the next several days.

Rosillo is in custody at the Bexar County Jail, facing charges of failure to stop and render aid and child endangerment.
