West Nile detected at Camp Bullis

3 mosquito sample pools test positive

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-CAMP BULLIS, Texas - The West Nile virus has officially been detected at Camp Bullis, according to a statement issued by Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis on Friday.


According to JBSA spokesman Brent Boller, three mosquito pool samples taken from a creek bed on Camp Bullis tested positive on Thursday.

Boller said JBSA officials are looking into treatment options and that an additional round of "targeted mosquito foggin" was done Friday morning at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.

Fort Sam has seen several mosquito sample pools test positive for the virus.

On Wednesday, Bexar County has recorded its first death from West Nile virus, a 77-year-old man. He is the 27th person in Texas to die from West Nile this year.
