Woman stabbed in front of elementary school

Argument between man, woman leads to stabbing

SAN ANTONIO - A man critically injured a woman after stabbing her several times around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning outside Bonham Academy on the 900 block of South Saint Mary’s Street.

San Antonio Police Sgt. Javier Salazar says Roberto Barron, 38, approached the victim outside of the school and the two began to argue.

Barron and the victim have a child together, whom the woman just dropped off at the school.

The argument escalated and Barron stabbed the woman several times in the upper body and neck, said Salazar.

She was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

Classes had already begun, so fortunately, no children were outside to witness the attack.

But several other passersby did. One of them even used his own weapon to stop the suspect.

“A passerby, who happened to be a concealed handgun license holder, drew his weapon and ordered the suspect to drop the knife,” said Salazar.

Another witness called 911 and told KSAT 12 that he saw the suspect try to get rid of evidence.

“He was on the phone talking to somebody, but he stayed there and then threw the knife in the bushes,” said Jonathan Reyes. “She was bleeding really bad. I couldn't see her face or anything because it was full of blood."

Investigators combed through the crime scene for hours outside Bonham. The school was never placed on lockdown, but students were allowed to leave early Tuesday afternoon if parents chose to pick them up.

They were escorted out the back of the school to avoid the crime scene.

Barron is charged with aggravated assault.
