Driver crashes into Ceralvo Street convenience store

Driver Denise Hernandez arrested on outstanding warrant

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio police said a woman crashed into a West Side convenience store on Ceralvo Street when she mixed up the reverse and drive gears.

"All I could think is, 'Oh my god, they threw a bomb through the window.' The whole building just shook," Jessica Ramirez, who was inside Express Mart at the time, said.

Marisol Munoz was working inside Express Mart Tuesday night.

"As soon as we turned around, we see the vehicle reversing. She actually used her reverse that time," Munoz said. "She was just walking around like, 'I thought I had it in reverse. I thought I had it in reverse. I am so sorry.'"

The car broke windows, knocked over two ice cream freezers and pushed back shelves full of merchandise.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 to $15,000 and no one was hurt.

The driver, 25-year-old Denise Hernandez, didn't get a ticket for mixing up the gears, but police arrested her on an outstanding warrant for theft of less than $50.
