Armed man surrenders after 2-hour standoff

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio police said a man gave himself up to authorities after holding a woman at gunpoint inside a South side apartment for more than an hour.

After letting the woman go, he continued to hold police at bay for another hour.

Police said shortly before 5 p.m., the received a call of shots fired inside an apartment in the 1800 block of West Mayfield.

Police made contact with the woman, who told them she was uninjured. She was eventually released into police custody unharmed.

SWAT teams cordoned off the streets around the apartment while they communicated with the man.

He surrendered just before 7 p.m. after police fired non-lethal projectiles at him.

Police have not identified the man and have not said what charges he will face.

KSAT has a crew at the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
