Trailer listing victims of 9/11 terrorist attacks parked in San Antonio

Trucker Dan Small to park rig at Petro truck stop on I-10 and Ackerman on September 11th

SAN ANTONIO - A big rig trailer honoring the victims of 9/11 sits parked at the Petro truck stop at I-10 and Ackerman. On its side, the words "have you forgotten" are painted along with the names of every person killed in the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Dan Small bought the trailer in March in an auction. He parked it in front of the Petro station to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the attacks while he was visiting family in South Texas.

On his way to San Antonio, he met a relative of one of the people his rig rolls on to remember.

"They came up to me and said we had, I believe they said an uncle, who died in the World Trade Center," Small said. "And they found his name on the trailer."

People made a special pit stop at Petro to take pictures of the truck and pay their own kind of tribute.

"I mean, people go day in and day out in their busy lives and I forgot that it was 9/11 tomorrow," said Adrienne, who was there admiring the truck with her family. "So this did remind me that tomorrow (Tuesday) is that day when our country totally changed."

The truck is parked in front of the Iron Skillet restaurant at the Petro station. Restaurant general manager, Eduardo Quintana, was happy to let Small take up the front row parking spaces.

"I've had a couple people ask who it belongs to and they want to go up and shake his hand," said Quintana.

No matter where this truck goes and no matter the time of year, Small says, it always makes people slow down to remember.

"It gets to ya," he said.

The truck is a refrigerated trailer that hauls produce and meat through Texas several times a month.

The trailer will be parked at the truck stop all day on Tuesday, September 11th.
