Poteet police: Bonnie Lynn Horn-Guerra arrested in teen drinking party

Bonnie Lynn Horn-Guerra, 41, charged with providing alcohol to minor; Several Poteet High School students disciplined

POTEET, Texas - A Poteet mother identified as 41-year-old Bonnie Lynn Horn-Guerra is accused of providing alcohol to minors during a party at her home, and several Poteet High School students have been disciplined in connection with the gathering over the weekend, Poteet police said.

Poteet High School disciplined six football players and are finalizing punishments for as many as eight cheerleaders. Dozens of teens were cited for alcohol possession.

Poteet High School says the football players, two of which are varsity players, will miss the next two games, including Friday's homecoming game.

Poteet police said they broke up the party at Bonnie Lynn Horn-Guerra's home late Saturday night. She is the mother of a varsity cheerleader.

Poteet police said Bonnie Lynn Horn-Guerra was arrested Monday and charged with one count of providing alcohol to a minor, a misdemeanor. She posted $8,000 bond Monday evening and was released.

Brandon Lopez, a Poteet High School senior who was not at the party, said several students are upset that while extracurricular suspensions should go beyond the playing field.

"Two of those students this past weekend were involved in illegal activities," said Lopez, who's the president of the student council. "The sad part is the school is still letting them participate in Homecoming."

Lopez is also running for Poteet High School homecoming king and said others on the ballot have asked school leaders to remove those two students from the ballot but have not received a definite answer.

"By those two kids actions, they're not representing the school or the community and I'm sure that the community agrees with me," he said. "We don't want somebody that's king or queen for homecoming that gets in trouble."
