Thief caught via Craigslist ad

Owner saw stolen golf clubs for sale, contacted police

SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio man was reunited with his stolen custom golf clubs after detectives used Craigslist to trap the suspected thief.

According to Officer Matt Porter, a San Antonio Police Department spokesman, the clubs' owner saw them for sale on the Internet and immediately contacted police.

Porter said the owner told detectives the clubs, which were stolen out of his car, had distinctive markings on them. Posing as a potential buyer, detectives contacted the suspect on Craigslist to arrange a meeting.

When officers confirmed the markings, they arrested the suspect. After searching the suspect's home, detectives also found a stolen computer and two stolen GPS units.

The 23-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, faces charges of possession of stolen property.
