Interstate 35 in San Marcos blocked by big rig wreck
Crews working to contain fuel spill
SAN MARCOS, Texas - A crash on Interstate 35 involving an 18-wheeler Thursday afternoon caused traffic headaches in San Marcos.
According to a city of San Marcos news release, a big rig lost control at it was traveling northbound on I-35 and struck a utility pole near exit 205, knocking the pole and lines down across both the northbound and southbound lanes.
The crash briefly blocked both lanes of traffic, forcing motorists onto the access roads.
By around 3:30 p.m., crews were able to open two lanes of traffic southbound and one northbound. Motorists traveling in both directions are advised to enter the access roads prior to exit 205 to avoid heavy congestion at the scene.
Clean-up crews have been called to contain a fuel spill from the semi's ruptured fuel tanks, which were nearly full when the crash occurred. Fire officials said there is no immediate fire danger but they are working quickly to contain the spill before the rain washes it into the environment.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported with minor injuries.
