Family of Jillian Johnson claims she was escaping harm when she ran over Sherman Joiner
San Antonio police: Jillian Johnson, 31, charged with murder in death, dragging of Joiner on Bellinger Street
SAN ANTONIO - 31-year-old Jillian Johnson was arrested over the weekend on murder charges, but her family claims she was trying to escape harm when she ran over 55-year-old Sherman Joiner with her car Saturday night in the 300 block of Bellinger Street.
San Antonio police said Johnson struck Joiner with her car and dragged him several yards after the two had a physical altercation.
A woman who said she is a relative of Johnson’s said Joiner assaulted her and Johnson after the two tried to break up a fight between two other women.
The woman, who asked not to be identified, said Johnson didn’t mean to run Joiner over and was only trying to get to safety.
San Antonio police said several witnesses told officers a different story, saying it appeared Johnson deliberately ran Joiner over.
According to public records, Joiner does have a history of violence and was convicted of murder in 2008.
