Homeowner killed in fire ignited by crash identified as John Cardenas, 88

Home on Timberhill Drive struck by speeding car; driver killed as well


SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Medical Examiner says John Cardenas, 88, died Sunday morning after a car struck his home in the 4200 block of Timberhill Drive, and ignited a massive fire. 

San Antonio Fire Department officials responded to the fire on the Northwest Side around 2:30 a.m.

According to San Antonio police, the driver was speeding, lost control of the car and crashed into the home.

San Antonio firefighters said the home immediately went up in flames and heavy smoked filled the inside.

Firefighters put out the fire, but discovered Cardenas' body inside the charred home.

The driver's body was found in the rubble as well. The driver's name has not been released.
