Investigators continue search for ringleader
SAN ANTONIO - 28 people have been arrested for their involvement in a south Texas illegal alien smuggling ring, authorities said.
According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the group used stolen vehicles to transport more than 100 undocumented aliens from Laredo to staging areas in San Antonio from September 2011 to August 2012.
12 have been federally charged with alien transportation and harboring. Other charges include aiding or assisting an aggravated felon to enter the United States and transporting aliens for financial gain and placing in jeopardy the life of persons.
Investigators said they continue to look for eight other people involved in the ring, including its leader, Fernando Martinez-Magana, 40.
ICE officials said Martinez-Magana is also known as Dieciseis, Zeta 16 and Don Fernando.
