Police search neighbor's home after deadly shooting at Caltex Mobile Home Park
SAPD: Dispute over air conditioner may have led to shooting
SAN ANTONIO - A dispute over an air conditioning unit may be what triggered a deadly shooting at Caltex Mobile Home Park in the 4000 block of SW Military Drive early Monday morning, San Antonio police said.
Officers found the body of 35-year-old Eddie Saenz around midnight laying near his SUV outside his mobile home. They said it appeared he had been shot in the head.
Detectives said they learned Saenz had been evicted and was in the middle of loading his property into his vehicle when he was shot.
Hours later, a mattress and box spring could still be seen tied to the top of his SUV.
Once Saenz’s body had been removed from the scene, detectives began focusing their attention on another mobile home in the park. They obtained a warrant to search the unit and took a woman who lives there in for questioning.
Jesse Pugh, who works as the park’s maintenance man, showed up a short time later, saying he lives in that home with his wife and children.
Pugh said he was the first person to find Saenz after he was shot, but investigators now have wrongly zeroed in on him, making him feel like a suspect.
"They did all this to me? To help this kid, to feel his pulse, to see if he was alive,” Pugh said. “I'm the only one that helped that kid. I shouldn't have even gotten involved in the first place.”
According to a police report, investigators have identified a suspect. However, as of 6 p.m. on Monday, they had not made an arrest nor released his name.
The report stated that a friend Saenz told police he had just returned to the mobile home park when a man came up to him, telling him that he had been shot.
The friend told police that man, who they refer to in the report as the suspect, had not yet called 911.
The friend also told officers he had seen Saenz earlier Sunday evening, arguing with that same man about an air conditioner, the report stated. The friend told police he heard the man threaten Saenz’s life, the report stated.
Later, police obtained written consent from a woman who lives with the suspect to search their mobile home and car, the report stated.
