SAPD: NW side bar hotspot for fights, shootings
Police called to G Bar 84 times since September of last year.
SAN ANTONIO - Problems continue to plague a popular northwest side bar, after another shooting happened over the weekend.
It started out as a fight inside G Bar, located on Ingram Road near Loop 410, and spilled into the parking lot, investigators said.
Police made several arrests, including two men who were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police have been called to the bar 84 times since last September on 13 different types of calls.
Most prevalent were fight calls, with nine reported, vice calls, with seven reported, and assault calls, with five reported.
“There’s a good chance the police department has already assigned extra units and targeted patrols in the area,” said KSAT crime specialist Gilbert De La Portilla.
That means more officers will keep an eye on the location De La Portilla said is sure to have a reputation among officers who regularly patrol the area.
“But it’s frustrating for them because there’s only so much they can do,” said De La Portilla.
He argued the brunt of the responsibility for safety lies with the bar itself.
Things like better security, stronger lighting, and increased cooperation with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission top his list of ways to decrease crime.
