SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio police announced the arrest Monday of an alleged burglar who stole more than $100,000 worth of jewelry from a Costco store located off UTSA Boulevard.
Sgt. Javier Salazar didn't say how the suspect broke into the store on July 12, but he did say he took a substantial amount of jewelry.
The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Dustin Ammons.
Salazar said Ammons was arrested Monday morning by officers with the Repeat Offenders Program and the Prue Road Property Crimes unit.
Salazar didn't say what led police to Ammons but they believe he is the person who broke into the store two months ago and stole the jewelry, some of which was recovered when they arrested Ammons.
"Over a $120,000 worth of jewelry was taken," Salazar said. "Some of the jewelry believed to be from that burglary itself was recovered today in possession of Mr. Ammons' when he was arrested."
Ammons will be charged with burglary.
Salazar added detectives are still investigating the crime. They aren't sure if Ammons was working alone or if he had help.
If you have any information about the heist call police at 207-SAPD or 224-STOP.
