Alamo tops list of Texas tourist stops
40 percent of visitors to Texas go to the Alamo
SAN ANTONIO - The Alamo is the No. 1 attraction in Texas for out-of-state visitors and Texans traveling within the state, according to the Texas State Travel Office.
Almost 40 percent of all out-of-state visitors go to the Alamo.
"(You) immediately think of the Alamo when you think Texas," Jenee Beatty, who is visiting from Illinois, said on Thursday.
Beatty was in San Antonio with her husband and four kids.
Even though her youngest son is not likely to remember the Alamo, she has never forgotten her childhood trip.
"I had been to the Alamo as a kid when I was 10, so I had been here and loved San Antonio, loved the River Walk and the Alamo and so I wanted to bring my kids back," Beatty said.
The family homeschools, and they decided to make this trip after a recent lesson on the Alamo.
"All the Texans who fought in it were killed, but in the end, we won the war with Mexico," Kaitlyn Beatty said.
That rich history brought John and Marcia Simonson to the Alamo Thursday.
They're on a motorhome trip from Florida to California and said a drive through Texas wouldn't be complete without a stop at the Alamo
"It is a point of history for the Southwest, and the turn of events that took place here in the 1800s is pretty dramatic," John Simonson said.
