San Antonio police: Mary Ester Martinez used stolen debit card, left it at store
Mary Ester Martinez, 42, told police she had permission to use card
SAN ANTONIO - Northeast Side resident Mary Ester Martinez, 42, is facing charges of credit card abuse for allegedly using a stolen card, then leaving it behind at a convenience store.
Two purchases were made with the stolen card, including one for more than $200, at a convenience store on Aug. 17, an arrest warrant affidavit stated.
The victim told police she contacted her bank the following day after noticing her debit card was missing, and that's when she found out about the unauthorized charges.
She told police she also found out that the person who used the card had left it behind on the counter, the affidavit stated.
Investigators said they obtained surveillance video from the store and showed it to the victim who immediately recognized Martinez.
The woman said she did not give Martinez permission to use the card, the affidavit stated.
Police said they interviewed Martinez who, at first, told them she was authorized to use the debit card, but changed her story once she found out about the surveillance video. Martinez was arrested Thursday.
