SAN ANTONIO - Ongoing construction at US 281 and Loop 1604 Interchange caused a traffic mess on Sunday.
According to drivers, initially 281 southbound at Loop 1604 was closed, and around 3 p.m. both sides of the highway were shutdown.
Officials with Alamo Regional Mobility Authority had said they had hoped to open the ramp going from northbound 281 to westbound Loop 1604 by next month. But a few weeks ago they announced that it probably won't happen until November.
As far as construction, the Mobility Authority had posted on their Website that there would be road closures on the main lanes of 281 at Loop 1604 up until noon.
But with the traffic looking the way it did on Sunday well into 5 p.m., many drivers said they think that maybe the work was delayed due to the rain.
"I don't think they should be doing this right now," said Bobby Green, a driver headed northbound on 281. "No. I think they should do it at night Monday through Friday from 12 to 6 in the morning."
KSAT 12 placed a call to the Regional Mobility Authority on Sunday to find out when the lanes would re-open, but the call was not returned.
