Educational app conceived in San Antonio

App works like flash cards, is fun for all ages

SAN ANTONIO - Everyone knows that wolves travel in a pack, and that a group of moose is called a herd, but did you know that when a group of alligators get together, it is called a congregation?

Well, now there is an app for that.

It's called Troops, Pods, and Parades.

Local developer Yvonne Goessling came up with the idea for the app from another project she had been working on.

"I have this children's' book that I've have always wanted to make into a pop up book. I thought that would be funny and cute. To open it up and have a parade of elephants or something like that. So we just turned it into an app, " Goessling said.

The app works like a set of virtual flash cards, with pictures of animals that can slide across the screen, and flip over to reveal the proper term for a group of that particular animal.

The app is geared for younger children, but even adults will get a kick out of it.

"Children love it and adults always finds a name that they haven't known, " Goessling said.

The app can be purchased for the iPhone or iPad for $0.99 at Apple's App Store. An Android version is in development.
