San Antonio police: Pedestrian hit, killed walking on I-35 access road near Fischer Road

Pedestrian struck by 18-wheeler, driver stopped to render aid

SAN ANTONIO - A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday night in the northbound lanes of the I-35 access road near Fischer Road.

Sgt. Steven Markgraf with SAPD said the pedestrian was apparently walking in the middle of the access road when the person was hit by the tractor portion of an 18-wheeler.

Markgraf said the truck driver knew he hit something, but wasn’t sure what it was until he stopped the rig and got out to check. By that time, the victim had been run over multiple times by other vehicles.

The victim was so severely injured it was unknown if the victim was a male or female. Markgraf said a purse was found near the victim and it was being searched in an attempt to identify the person.

No charges are expected for the truck driver and Markgraf said it’s possible the other drivers didn’t realize what they ran over because it is so dark in the area.
