Deputy Kenneth Vann's killer has trial date set
Lawyers for Mark Anthony Gonzalez ask that trial be moved
SAN ANTONIO - The man accused of capital murder in the shooting death of Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Vann will be tried next summer.
On Thursday, Judge Mary Roman set Aug. 2, 2013, as the date for jury selection in the trial of Mark Anthony Gonzalez, 54, to begin.
Testimony is scheduled to begin on Sept. 3., 2013.
Gonzalez’ lawyers asked that the trial be moved out of San Antonio due to the extensive publicity the case has received.
Roman said she would take the request into consideration when jury selection begins if finding prospective jurors becomes a problem.
