Apparent road rage shooting leads to double rollover accident, suspect's death

San Antonio police: Truck driver killed after firing shots at SUV on Highway 151 near Wiseman Boulevard

SAN ANTONIO - An apparent road rage shooting on Highway 151 near Wiseman Boulevard led to a double rollover accident and the death of the suspected shooter, San Antonio police say.

Three others, including a 3-year-old child were injured in the crash Monday afternoon.

San Antonio police investigators believe the incident started when a blue SUV apparently cut off a maroon pickup truck as both vehicles were headed westbound on 151.

Police said the pickup truck's driver, a man in his 40s, pulled out a gun and shot at the SUV several times, hitting its front passenger – identified by a family member as 29 –year-old Pedro de Luna - in his arm.

The same relative identifies the driver of the SUV as Pedro’s father, Francisco de Luna, a former professional truck driver.

The child in the SUV was Francisco de Luna’s 3-year-old grandson, who had just been picked up from school before the incident.

The shooting caused both drivers to lose control, forcing the vehicles off the road, where they both flipped and rolled over.

The pickup's driver -- the suspected shooter -- was killed in the wreck, investigators said.

Word spread fast at a nearby Valero as customers heard what happened. One of those customers was even brought to tears.

“It makes me sad and mad,” said Donna Petz, with tears in her eyes. “I want to cry actually. I’m sorry to get emotional, but it just makes me sad that people don’t value life.”

The family in the SUV was taken to University hospital, where relatives say they are being treated for cuts and broken bones. All three victims are said to be responsive.

It is not known if the pickup's driver was wearing a seatbelt.
