San Antonio police: Teen accidentally shot himself in stomach at apartments on Utopia

SAPD: 2 other teens witness shooting, flee


SAN ANTONIO - An 18-year-old was hospitalized after San Antonio police said he accidentally shot himself in the stomach early Monday morning.

San Antonio police say around 12:30 a.m., a 16- and 19-year-old went to visit the 18-year-old at an apartment in the 440 block of Utopia.

Police say the two showed off a 9 mm pistol.

They told police the teen shot himself in the stomach.

The teen's mother said when she heard the gunshot, she went into his room. She told police the teen told her, "Mom, it's OK. Mom, I'm sorry. I accidentally shot myself. The gun went off accidentally."

She also told police she saw the other two teens leave almost immediately. Police said the pair took off to another apartment but were later found and admitted to being scared.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

No charges have been filed.
