Dancing with the Stars Week 4: While Paula has a game, Gilles and Shawn make a gain

Last week, Helio Castroneves and Drew Lachey respectively made an early exit from the ballroom; in the seasons first-ever double elimination.

Last night, the remaining nine couples go head to head, some of them with dance styles they have never done before.

Paula Abdul made her major appearance in the ballroom.

Shawn Johnson and Gilles Marini’s routines sent them soaring to the top with the first ever 10s of the season. Apolo Anton Ohno, Melissa Rycroft, and Sabrina Bryan had slight mistakes in their routines which cost them points.

Kelly Monaco was the surprise of the night with a contemporary routine that sent chills down the spine of everyone in the ballroom; while, Kirstie Alley was sent tumbling to the bottom of the leader board with a lack-luster Charleston.

We have seen champions sent packing over lack-luster performances and small mishaps. So, who will be sent packing tonight?

If you missed the performance last night or you just want to see a slight recap click here to go to the official Dancing with the Stars website.

The scores for last night’s show are as follows

  • Kirstie and Maksim: 30.0
  • Bristol and Mark: 32.0
  • Sabrina and Louis: 35.5
  • Emmitt and Cheryl: 36.0
  • Gilles and Peta: 39.5
  • Melissa and Tony: 37.0
  • Shawn and Derek: 39.5
  • Apolo and Karina: 34.5
  • Kelly and Val: 37.5

The competition has become so intense, everyone has brought their A game so this elimination is going to more than likely be a major surprise. However, based on experience I am confident in saying that a lady All-Star is going to be eliminated this week.

We have three gentlemen in the ballroom and six ladies. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the odds are not in our ladies favor. So, Gilles Marini, Emmitt Smith, and Apolo Anton Ohno (even with the major mistake) are pretty much given a free pass into next week.

The ladies on the other hand make a major tossup. Bristol Palin’s improvement works both ways here. Her laid-out Rock n’ Roll might get her into next week because it appears she is trying or it could send her packing if the voters keep in the more talented All-Stars.

Kirstie Alley’s Charleston was enjoyable but it wasn’t as full on as we all know she can be. Not to mention, she was in the bottom two with Drew last week so that doesn’t help much either.

Sabrina Bryan’s disco routine was so much fun and probably the most ambitious of the night; however her scores stuck her in the middle of the pack which is never a good thing. Also, she was in the bottom two with Helio which could seal her fate.

Shawn Johnson’s routine was practically perfection and her partnership with Derek Hough pretty much has her in the Semi-Finals round so no worry for her.

Melissa Rycroft’s Jitterbug was all-out and hardcore. Her fan base has managed to grow through her popularity on Facebook and Twitter, since it shows that she is the most social of the All-Stars. Her partnership with Tony Dovolani is also a nice thing due to his past talent-lacking partners.

Kelly Monaco’s contemporary routine was the one surprise of the night. Her ambition and her drive to master contemporary steps that I have seen even professional dancers struggle with is incredible. I find her safe, at least for this week.

Finally, in regards to Paula Abdul’s appearance in the Dancing with the Stars ballroom was one of the most entertaining and enjoyable moments of every single series that I have ever seen, which also includes Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with the Stars in Australia.

Her chemistry with Bruno was amazing I was cackling hysterically with her impersonation of Bruno Tonioli with Gilles Marini and her ‘eh’ attitude with Maksim Chemrokvosky.

Her credentials place her among the best of the best of choreographers and her criticism was enough to match with the other judges. I for one would love to see her as a permanent judge and if necessary a replacement for Carrie Ann Inaba.

Next week is guilty pleasures week and the Team Freestyle. I must say I am very excited. I loved the old guilty pleasures week and I am sure this one will do it justice. With these remaining All-Stars, their individual freestyles (with the exception of Sabrina Bryan) were memorable in their own way. I am excited to see how they pull it off as a team. Tune in tonight to see who goes home and tune in next Monday October 22nd 2012 to see how our stars fail with their guilty pleasures and their Team Freestyle.
