Suspect carrying fake rifles starts standoff at Little Caesars Pizza on South WW White Road
San Antonio police: Suspect forces employees out of building, taken into police custody after short standoff
SAN ANTONIO - A man walked into a Little Caesars Pizza Wednesday night carrying what appeared to be two assault rifles, according to authorities. It happened at 909 south WW White at about 8:15 p.m.
Police said the suspect never demanded money from employees, but instead forced them out of the building.
One employee used a flashlight to flag down a police officer who was on routine patrol in the area.
That officer called for backup and SAPD spokesman Sgt. Javier Salazar said the restaurant was quickly surrounded.
While inside, the man pointed the suspected weapons underneath his chin, police said.
Police made contact with the man using a loud speaker. He quickly surrendered, police said.
That's when officers realized that the man was not holding real weapons but rather air soft guns.
The man was taken into police custody and is expected to be charged with aggravated assault, authorities said.
No employees were hurt. Police said it is unclear what, if anything, the man wanted from them.
