Parents turn in son stripping copper in shed in 700 block of West Gerald

Suspect charged with evading arrest while police investigate if copper was stolen

SAN ANTONIO - A man is facing charges of evading arrest after his parents called San Antonio police to report him stripping copper in their backyard shed.

San Antonio police officers were called to a home in the 700 block of West Gerald around 1 a.m. for a family disturbance.

A couple told them their 45-year-old son was in the back shed with the copper, which may have been stolen.

Officers knocked on the shed door and the man ran away and jumped over the fence.

SAPD's Blue Eagle helicopter was called to assist the search and the suspect was spotted hiding in a vacant lot.

The man was taken into custody and charged only with evading arrest while police determine if the copper was stolen.

San Antonio police said no one had reported it stolen as of 7 a.m. Thursday.
