Homeowner fights off would-be burglar

Man chases after robber with hammer, dodges bullets

SAN ANTONIO - A homeowner chased after a man who he said tried to break into his home.

San Antonio police said around 8:45 a.m. on Monday, a man tried to break into the home of Lan-Dell Carlisle (pictured) in the 2800 block of Amber Morning, near Loop 1604 and Marbach.

Police said Carlisle chased after the man with a hammer.

"He pointed his gun at me, telling me he wants to go -- he wants to leave," Carlisle said, recounting his interaction with the would-be burglar. "And I said, 'You're not going nowhere, you're staying here for the cops. The cops are coming."

Police said the man fled, however, but not before firing shots at Carlisle.

Carlisle wasn't hit and he followed the man into his vehicle. Police said the pair started fighting and the man fired tow more shots at Carlisle -- but still didn't hit him.

Police said that's when Carlisle backed off and the other guy took off.

As of noon on Monday, the would-be burglar was still on the run.
