SAPD gearing up for Halloween
Increased visibility, patrols on tap for Halloween
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Police Department has big plans for Halloween night, centering on keeping trick-or-treaters safe.
Officer Jason Waclawczyk said he’s worked several Halloweens before.
“It’s always a busy night, mainly because you have a ton of people on the street and a higher call volume of suspicious activity,” said Waclawczyk.
He said crimes usually are simple and relatively harmless, like tagging or egging homes. But the threat of sexual predators is also a prevalent one.
Adult Probation Services in Bexar County has a program that puts each of the registered sex offenders under supervision for the evening.
That takes 500 or so offenders off the streets.
But there are many offenders who are not under state supervision, having either served their parole or probationary period.
For that reason, Waclawczyk said, parents must remain vigilant.
“Do what parents are supposed to do,” said Waclawczyk. “Look after your kids and if you have any problems, call the police.”
